Newton man charged with arson, attempted murder in fire

A Newton man was arraigned Monday on charges of arson and attempted murder after a fire at his residence over the weekend, the Middlesex district attorney’s office said. Tze Mui, 58, was charged in connection with a fire at 181 Pearl St., District Attorney Marian T. Ryan’s office said. Mui pleaded not guilty in Newton District Court and was ordered held pending a dangerousness hearing scheduled for Friday, said Stephanie Guyotte, a spokeswoman for Ryan’s office. Guyotte said police responded to the home at approximately 5:15 p.m. Saturday for a report of a fire with people possibly trapped inside, but she did not know any further details.
