Maine women’s groups back human trafficking bill

Conservative women’s groups in Maine are urging lawmakers to consider a bill that would allow victims of human trafficking to have their prostitution convictions vacated. Concerned Women for America of Maine, the Informed Women’s Network, and the Republican Federation of Women met Thursday at the State House to support the bill introduced by state Representative Amy Volk, a Republican. The bill was among several hundred the Democrat-controlled Legislative Council rejected last week when deciding which should be considered when lawmakers return in January. Volk will appeal that decision later this month. The groups said the bill will help human trafficking victims move forward with their lives.
