A Springfield police officer is facing possible disciplinary action after reporting that his service firearm was missing from his Connecticut apartment. A spokesman for Commissioner William Fitchet told The Republican that Officer Kevin Merchant attended a four-hour disciplinary hearing Wednesday but that no decision has been made on what, if any, punishment he will receive. That process could take seven to 10 days. Merchant remains on normal duty status. Hartford police said they responded to Merchant’s home Oct. 15 for a report of a missing or stolen firearm. The gun disappeared during off-duty hours.
