Hatfield man allegedly threatens police responding to gunfire in home

A Hatfield man with an arsenal of weapons was arrested after he allegedly aimed a rifle at a police officer who had responded to reports of gunfire at his Western Massachusetts home, officials said.

Gunshots were reported at about 5:20 p.m. Sunday in the home of Todd Dostal, 31, on Circle Drive in the town of Hatfield, which neighbors Northampton, State Police said.

When officers arrived, Dostal, who was intoxicated, exited his home, pointed a rifle at an officer, and told the officer to leave the property, State Police said. He then went back inside.

Hatfield police requested assistance from State Police, who sent a tactical unit and a K-9 unit to Dostal’s address.

Dostal will be charged with assault with a dangerous weapon, resisting arrest, intimidating a witness, improperly storing a firearm, and possessing a firearm while intoxicated, State Police said.
