When snow falls, driving becomes tricky. The National Weather Service issued a special weather statement this morning for the commute to work, cautioning drivers that the heavy snow this morning will reduce visibility and create slippery travel conditions. Snow was expected to taper off by about 10 a.m., after which conditions will improve.

“The Boston area has seen the first snowfall of the season,” said Charlie Foley, weather service meteorologist. “During the afternoon it will be sunny and cold, with temperatures dropping steadily. Wednesday should be the coldest day of the season, then we will see a rapid warmup.”

After the snow tapers off this morning, skies will gradually become partly sunny, and temperatures will crest around 43, according to the weather service. Skies will remain clear overnight, and temperatures will fall into the upper 30s.

Wednesday will be cold and dry, with daytime temperatures warming into the upper 30s. Blustery winds will bring gusts up to 20 miles per hour through the day, bringing about single digit wind chills. Skies will be clear, and temperatures will fall into the upper 20s overnight, according to the weather service.

Temperatures will shoot up Thursday, with the daytime high reaching into the low 50s. Skies will be sunny, and a southwest wind will bring gusts up to 15 miles per hour, according to the weather service. Temperatures will fall into the mid-30s overnight, and conditions will remain dry.

Friday will be mostly sunny, with daytime highs in the mid-50s. These conditions will last through the weekend, with temperatures hovering in the 50s through the weekend. Saturday will be mostly cloudy, but Sunday will see rebounding sun.

“I think the next chance of precipitation would be early next week, with some rain showers, but it doesn’t look like we will see a cold outbreak again, at least for the early part of the week,” Foley said.
