Body found at Smith College identified

The man found dead on the campus of Smith College in Northampton was identified Sunday as Kyle William Amidon, 35, of Florence, the Northwestern district attorney’s office said. A student found the body in the woods near the college’s Japanese tea hut about 1:30 p.m. Saturday, the college said in a statement. Amidon was not affiliated with Smith, said a spokeswoman for the district attorney’s office. The circumstances surrounding Amidon’s death remained under investigation Sunday night by Northampton and State Police, but foul play was not suspected, the district attorney’s office said. No further information was available.
