Westborough man charged in stabbing of his mother

A Westborough man has pleaded not guilty to charges that he stabbed his mother multiple times in their home Thursday night, said a spokesman for the Worcester district attorney’s office.

Daniel Uhlman, 44, was charged Friday morning in Westborough District Court with assault to murder, assault and battery, and assault to mayhem, said spokesman Tim Connolly.

Uhlman was held without bail.

When officers arrived, they found the 72-year-old woman covered in blood, with stab wounds to her head and torso and injuries on her face and left wrist, police said.

The victim was taken to UMass Memorial Medical Center, where she remained hospitalized with injuries that police said were life-threatening.

The woman told police that her son had attacked her. Officers searched the house and found blood in several rooms, but no sign of anyone else there, police said.

A short while later, a Massachusetts Department of Transportation worker notified police that he had seen a man covered in blood walking on East Main Street, about a half mile from the house.

Officers found Uhlman with blood on him at East Main and Walker streets and arrested him, police said.

Uhlman is scheduled to return to court Feb. 19 for a dangerousness hearing, said Connolly.
