Bates College says a student from New Hampshire is missing in Rome. The college said Friday that John Durkin of Rye was among several students participating in a study-abroad program through Trinity College in Connecticut. Friends traveling with the group said Durkin has not been seen for two days. They said he went out to a bar and never returned. Bates College spokeswoman Meg Kimmel told WMTW-TV that college officials have been in touch with Durkin’s parents and that Durkin’s father is on his way to Italy to assist in the search.
