Diocese passes child-safety audit

The Roman Catholic Diocese of Portland is in full compliance with nationally mandated child-protection policies for 2012-2013, according to a recent audit. The church each year undergoes an audit by an outside company to ensure compliance with standards implemented by the US Conference of Catholic Bishops in 2002 amid a clergy abuse scandal. New Bishop Robert Deeley congratulated his predecessor, Bishop Richard Malone, who Deeley said left a strong legacy of ensuring a safer environment for children.
