Boston schools post 1,000 teacher openings

The Boston public school system has launched a drive to attract up to 1,000 applicants for teaching positions for the 2014-2015 school year, officials said Monday. Current teachers and outside candidates are urged to apply. The drive is part of a systemwide effort to hire teachers earlier and to give current staff members an opportunity to apply for jobs they are interested in. School officials say they hope to attract a diverse group of educators. “We already have many of the nation’s very best teachers in the Boston public schools right now, and this push is designed to strengthen our classrooms even more,” Interim Superintendent John McDonough said in the statement.
