Man killed in apartment complex fire in Gardner

The state fire marshal’s office is investigating a fire that killed one person and displaced several others at an apartment complex in Gardner Tuesday night, fire officials said. The unidentified victim was taken to the city’s Heywood Hospital with fatal injuries, said a Fire Department spokesman, Lieutenant Gregory Lagoy. Firefighters were called at 9:07 p.m. to the three-alarm blaze on Lake Street, which was confined to a third-floor apartment. The victim is believed to be the man who lived in the apartment, said Jennifer Mieth, a spokeswoman for State Fire Marshal Stephen D. Coan.
