Pedestrian fatally struck on Route 1 in Saugus

A pedestrian was fatally struck by a car on Route 1 in Saugus Thursday night, State Police said. The incident took place near the Ferns Deluxe Motel shortly before 9 p.m., Trooper Thomas Murphy said. It was a possible hit-and-run accident, he said. Responders took an unidentified male victim to the North Shore Medical Center-Union Hospital in Lynn, and he was later pronounced dead, State Police said. All the northbound lanes of Route 1 in the area were shut down at about 10 p.m., and traffic was diverted, State Police said.
