Small earthquake recorded near Woonsocket, R.I.

A small earthquake was recorded Friday afternoon near Woonsocket, R.I., the US Geological Survey said. The 1.7-magnitude temblor shook the ground 1 mile north-northeast of Woonsocket at 1:38 p.m., the agency said. Dispatchers from the Woonsocket Police Department and Fire Department said the offices did not receive any calls on the quake. No injuries were reported. “We didn’t feel a thing,” said the police dispatcher. “I didn’t even know.” An earthquake of such small magnitude is unlikely to cause damage and is unlikely to be felt by more than a few people.
