Taking the Pike? Take a detour or face traffic

Sox fans, airport-goers, and western suburbanites travelling into Boston Sunday: Expect traffic.

For the third weekend of construction, the Massachusetts Turnpike Prudential Tunnel is limited to one lane each way, and Exit 22 to Copley Square and Huntington Avenue is closed as crews renovate the tunnel’s ceiling.

That means drivers should try and take alternate routes, especially as crowds head to Fenway for a 1:35 p.m. game time.

“We are doing this work on a weekend because traffic volumes are lower, but were aware that some folks who do not drive in regularly might not be aware of it,” said Michael Verseckes, a Transportation Department spokesman.

Verseckes suggested getting off the turnpike at the Allston-Brighton tolls and taking Storrow Drive, hopping on the MBTA, or leaving home with plenty of time to spare.
