Jailed Conn. teen’s advocates concerned about isolation

Advocates for a teenage transgender girl detained without charges at a Connecticut’s women’s prison said they are concerned she has been held in isolation for more than a month now. Supporters of the 16-year-old girl known in court proceedings as Jane Doe said they are worried that the isolation will cause more psychological harm. The teen said she has been raped and beaten while in the custody of the Department of Children and Families by relatives and a DCF worker. A state judge ordered the girl sent to the women’s prison in Niantic last month at the request of DCF officials, who said she is too violent for them to handle.
