Man, young girl killed in crash in Chelmsford

A man and a 3-year-old girl, both from Quincy, were killed early Sunday when their vehicle crashed on a highway in Chelmsford, State Police said.

Police identified the man as 43-year-old Han Van Hoang but released no information about the girl, other than her age.

The crash occurred shortly before 1 a.m. on the southbound side of Interstate 495 when a 2004 Toyota Camry driven by Hoang “for reasons still under investigation . . . veered to the right, crossed over a raised island that separates the highway from the entrance to the Chelmsford rest area, continued through the grass and then impacted a metal guardrail,” troopers said in a statement.

The man and the child, who was belted into a car seat, were pronounced dead at the scene, according to State Police. Spokesmen said they could not comment on the victims’ relationship to each other.
