Translation The book to name-drop among Democrats these days isn’t Hillary Rodham Clinton’s latest. It’s “Capital in the 21st Century,” in which French economist Thomas Piketty argues that inequality is steadily worsening and threatens to overwhelm democracy. It’s strong ammo for a populist like Elizabeth Warren. As for Clinton, who’s more centrist, Twitter wags pounced on her recent admission that she’d read “long essays” about “Capital,” but not the book itself. (She’s likely not alone; the tome is 700 pages long.) In professing to agree with Piketty anyway, Clinton underscored the resonance of his message for her party. —DANTE RAMOS
