Pedestrian struck and killed in Chelsea

A 58-year-old man was struck and killed by a car in Chelsea on Sunday night, police said. The man, whose name was not released pending notification of his family, was hit around 9 p.m. on Hawthorne Street, according to Captain Keith Houghton, a police spokesman. The victim was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital where he was pronounced dead, Houghton said. The operator of the vehicle, who was not identified, was on scene and cooperating with police, according to Houghton. No charges had been issued as of Sunday night and alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash, which is under investigation. No further information was available Sunday night.
