A Comcast employee died last week after being injured in a two-story fall from his ladder in Somerville, officials said.
Kevin Sullivan, 31, of Burlington was pronounced dead Sept. 12. A funeral service will be held in Burlington Friday.
Sullivan was working on cable wiring on Cedar Street in Somerville on Sept. 10 when he fell from his ladder, striking his head on a retaining wall on the way down, said Somerville Deputy Police Chief Michael Cabral. Sullivan was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead two days later.
“Our Comcast family is deeply saddened by the tragic death of our colleague and friend,” said Doreen Vigue, a Comcast spokeswoman, in an e-mail. “Our thoughts, prayers and condolences go out to his loved ones during this very difficult time.” She had no further comment.
The US Occupational Safety and Health Administration is probing the circumstances of Sullivan’s death, said OSHA spokesman Edmund Fitzgerald, in an e-mail to the Globe.
“The purpose of the inspection is to determine whether or not there were any violations of workplace safety standards in connection with this worker’s death,” Fitzgerald said.
A co-worker of Sullivan, who asked to remain anonymous, described Sullivan as an “outstanding, stand-up guy.”
“He was one who was above his time. ... If something needed to get done, he would do it,” Sullivan’s co-worker said Tuesday in a telephone interview. “This kid was brilliant, and I haven’t met anyone like him.”
The service will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home in Burlington.Trisha Thadani can be reached at email@example.com.Follow her on Twitter @TrishaThadani.
