Flip-flop alert!

Cosmopolitan magazine, which lauded Scott Brown as it splashed a nude photo of him across its pages in 1982, today endorsed the Republican’s opponent in New Hampshire US Senate race.

“[W]hile we wish we could support the man who once posed nude in our pages, his policy positions just aren’t as solid as his abs were in the ’80s,” the magazine wrote . “We support Jeanne Shaheen for Senate.”

Shaheen, the incumbent Democrat, faces Brown, who was a Boston College Law School student when he posed for the famous magazine aimed at women. Brown subsequently became a lawyer and state senator, and roared back into the national conversation when he won the Massachusetts US Senate contest in 2010.

Cosmo cited Shaheen’s vocal support for women’s rights issues and wrote that the positions of Brown, who favors abortion rights, are less clear cut.

“Scott Brown may have been Cosmopolitan’s ‘sexiest man’ in 1982, but in 2014, we’re picking brains over brawn — and that’s Jeanne Shaheen,” the magainze wrote.

The New Hampshire race is considered competitive and among the contests that will determine whether Republican take back the US Senate.

Brown and Shaheen will face off in November.
