Wrentham bicyclist killed in accident

A bicyclist was struck and killed by a small dump truck in Wrentham at 4:54 p.m. Saturday. The victim was identified by police as Scott Fleming, age 48, who lived in Wrentham with his wife and children.

According to Lieutenant Detective William McGrath of the Wrentham Police, the driver was not injured, and was the person who called 911.

Fleming was riding on West Street toward Bellingham Street when he took a left on Jenk Street, crossing into the opposing lane, McGrath said. After Fleming was struck the truck, it veered off the road and hit a utility pole, McGrath said. McGrath added the truck was travelling within the speed limit. Fleming was taken to Landmark Medical Center in Woonsocket, R.I.

A State Police spokesperson said their accident reconstruction team was examining the scene late into the night. McGrath said Wrentham Police’s investigation will continue, but that at this stage, the truck driver appears unlikely to face charges.
