A truck burst into flames Friday morning on Commonwealth Avenue in the Boston University area.

A Boston Water and Sewer Commission truck caught fire around 10:40 a.m. in front of 872 Commonwealth Ave., said Boston Fire spokesman Steve MacDonald.

According to an alert distributed by the BU Police Department, no injuries were reported.

Surrounding streets were closed, and people were told to avoid the area, the department told the community. An alert sent out around 11:15 a.m. said the fire had been extinguished and streets had been reopened to normal traffic.

An employee at the 7-Eleven at 860 Commonwealth Ave. said shortly after 11 a.m. that the fire had broken out around 10:30 a.m., and the flames appeared to be “20 feet high.”
