WORCESTER — Astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson is scheduled to deliver an annual lecture at the College of the Holy Cross that addresses challenges facing the nation.

Tyson, host of Fox’s ‘‘Cosmos: A SpaceTime Odyssey,’’ will deliver the 49th Hanify-Howland Memorial Lecture on Nov. 13.

The lecture recognizes individuals who have distinguished themselves in public service.

While the lecture entitled ‘‘Science as a Way of Knowing’’ is free and open to the public, in keeping with tradition, Tyson will also conduct a seminar allowing students to interact with the speaker in a more intimate environment.

Tyson is the head of the Hayden Planetarium in New York City, and in addition to being a television host, is an author, and has served on government commissions studying the aerospace industry and space travel.
