A car smashed into a house in Dorchester Friday afternoon, injuring the driver and causing major damage to the car, Boston fire officials said.

Firefighters responded at about 4 p.m. to a report of a car crashed into a house at 44 Hill Top St., according to an official tweet by the department.

The male driving was transported to an area hospital. A woman and two children who were also in the car were not injured, according to fire officials.

When the car crashed into the house, it knocked out a decorative column from the porch and bent the other, said Steve MacDonald, a Fire Department spokesman. The occupants of the home were not injured in the incident, he said.

The extent of the damage to the house was unclear, pending an evaluation by a building inspector.

Boston police were at the scene to investigate the accident.
