Saugus selectmen terminate town manager

The Saugus Board of Selectmen voted 4-1 on Wednesday to terminate suspended Town Manager Scott C. Crabtree from the office he held since 2012. Crabtree had requested the board hold a public hearing to address charges of alleged wrongdoing that led the selectmen to suspend him in September. But his lawyer submitted a letter withdrawing the request, stating “any such hearing . . . would be a farce.” The nine charges against Crabtree include poor communication with selectmen, the improper acceptance of a $4,300 educational incentive payment, and the unauthorized payment of $100,000 to hire a firm to investigate a selectman.
