A tractor-trailer fire closed a portion of Route 128 southbound on the Stoneham/Reading line for about an hour Friday morning, officials said.
State Police were alerted to the fire around 9:10 a.m., said Trooper Dustin Fitch, a spokesman. It was not clear what caused the fire, but no one was injured, Fitch said.
“The entire road was closed for a period of time while the smoke cleared,” Fitch said. Shortly before 10 a.m., traffic was backed up for about 5 miles.
The left lane was reopened about 9:30 a.m., State Police said in an official tweet. By 10:05 a.m., all lanes had reopened and the truck had been cleared from the road, Fitch said.
Fitch said drivers should expect residual delays.
