2 women found dead of possible heroin overdoses in Lowell
Two women were found dead in Lowell on Monday night of suspected heroin overdoses, police said.
The victims were discovered unresponsive and not breathing at 183 Gorham St., about 6:40 p.m., Lowell Police Captain Thomas D. Kennedy said in a statement.
A caller told police that she and two of her companions had been using heroin earlier in the day, Kennedy said in the statement.
The two women were taken to Lowell General Hospital where they were pronounced dead.
“The cause of death is believed to be a heroin overdose,” the statement said.
The identities of the women are being withheld pending notification of relatives.
The deaths are the latest in a rash of fatal heroin overdoses that have hit cities and towns across the Massachusetts.
