3 people, dog die in Milton, N.H., car crash

Three people died in a car crash Thursday on Route 16 in Milton, N.H., officials said.

New Hampshire State Police were called at 8:15 p.m. to a motor vehicle accident involving a 2005 Jeep Liberty and a 2009 Subaru Outback. The Jeep was traveling south and crossed into the northbound lane, hitting the Subaru, State Police said.

The Jeep’s operator, Victoria Rose, 57, of Revere, Mass., was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Subaru, Allison Smith, 31, of Portsmouth, N.H., was transported to Frisbie Memorial Hospital in Rochester, N.H., where she later died, State Police said.

A passenger in the Subaru, Vanessa Cox, 31, of Boston, was taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland, where she later died.

Two other passengers, one in the Jeep and one in the Subaru, sustained serious injuries and were in stable condition on Friday.

A small dog in the Jeep was euthanized because of injuries.

The incident, which forced the road to be closed for four hours, is under investigation.

The New Hampshire State Police collision analysis and reconstruction unit, the Milton police and fire departments, Farmington police, Rochester police, and the New Hampshire Department of Transportation all assisted at the scene.
