Traffic on Interstate 95 in Waltham was snarled Sunday afternoon as emergency workers responded to a pileup involving more than 20 vehicles, State Police said.
All but one southbound lane was closed as crews worked to clear the scene north of exit 27, State Police said in a statement.
Several people were hurt but the injuries were minor.
State Police said a snow squall may have contributed to the crash, which occurred about 2:45 p.m. Traffic was redirected off I-95 south at Trapelo Road.
State Police also reported a seven-car crash on Route 128 near Route 114 in Peabody that closed the left lane. No one was injured, State Police said.
