A Dorchester man, convicted 20 years ago for stabbing an off-duty firefighter to death, was denied a new trial for the third time on Monday, officials said. In March 1994, Kareen Brown, who was then 25, killed Danclar Mead, then 32 and also of Dorchester, outside a fast-food restaurant, according to a statement released by the office of Suffolk District Attorney Daniel F. Conley. In his appeal before the Massachusetts Appeals Court, Brown claimed he was locked out of the courtroom during jury selection for his 1998 trial, but the court found the claims to be false, Conley’s office said. Brown was sentenced in 1998 to life in prison.
