A man was rescued by firefighters after he got caught in an escalator at the Chinatown Station on the Orange Line Wednesday morning, officials said.
The man was riding up the escalator around 9:20 a.m., when he slipped and fell backward at the top, said Steve MacDonald, a spokesman for the Boston Fire Department. His coat got caught in the escalator and his elbow was pulled into the area where the escalator goes back into the system.
Firefighters shut down the escalator and rescued the man.
He was taken to Tufts Medical Center around 9:45 a.m. with injuries that were not life-threatening, said Joe Pesaturo, an MBTA spokesman.

The station remained open during the incident, although southbound Orange Line trains to Forest Hills bypassed the stop for approximately 15 minutes, according to the MBTA Alert system.
