The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum will open free of charge on Thursday as a place to relax and escape the frigid weather, the museum said. The Gardner Museum, open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday, is styled after a 15th-century Venetian palazzo and its courtyard is filled with a variety of orchids. Kathy Sharpless, the museum’s director of marketing and communications, said the galleries are the perfect escape for the bitter cold. On display are “Donatello, Michelangelo, Cellini: Sculptors’ Drawings from Renaissance Italy” and “Nari Ward: Divination X,” a contemporary art exhibit.
