The New England Conservatory of Music has announced it will begin construction on the first new space the school has built on campus since 1959. The music school’s board of trustees voted Wednesday to start the process for the new Student Life and Performance Center this spring, initiated by a groundbreaking ceremony on May 5, according to a press release from the school. The building is scheduled for completion in 2017, the 150th anniversary of the music conservatory, and will feature a residence hall, a dining area, and various types of rehearsal space, NEC said.
