Catholic school in Harvard withdraws from parade amid LGBTQ participation

The Catholic Action League of Massachusetts has commended a Catholic school in Harvard for withdrawing its band and float from Boston’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade for the second year in a row.

The Immaculate Heart of Mary School decided not to participate in the parade after learning that the LGBTQ Veterans group OUTVETS would also be participating, the league said Thursday.

“This valiant example of unflinching devotion to Catholic Faith and morals deserves to be both emulated by other Catholic organizations and affirmed by the Leadership of the Archdiocese of Boston” said C.J. Doyle, the league’s executive director, in a statement.

The league is urging organizers to change the name of the parade to the Evacuation Day Parade, commemorating the civil holiday instead of St. Patrick.
