Woman struck by freight train near Norwood station

A 50-year-old woman was hit by a southbound freight train near Norwood Central commuter rail station shortly before 11 a.m. Monday, MBTA Transit Police said.

The woman was on the the track at 10:51 a.m. when she was hit by a CSX train, said Transit Police Lieutenant Richard Sullivan, a department spokesman. He said the woman was trespassing at the time.

Sullivan said she was transported to a nearby hospital with serious injuries.


Transit Police detectives are investigating the incident.

Sullivan said foul play is not suspected.

Sullivan said buses will transport passengers between Walpole and Dedham Corporation stops on the Franklin commuter rail train while an investigation is conducted.
