Framingham man arraigned on masked armed robbery charges

A Framingham man is facing armed robbery charges after he allegedly held up a convenience store clerk at gunpoint last week, officials said.

Mike Sowa, 35, allegedly attempted to rob a Marlborough convenience store on April 9, but was unsuccessful when a group of men, watching a soccer game on TV in the store, jumped on Sowa and wrestled the gun from him, the office of Middlesex District Attorney Marian T. Ryan said in a statement.

The men allegedly saw Sowa wearing a mask and taking money from the cashier. They held Sowa after taking the gun from him, until police responded to the Nosso Brazilian Convenience Store on Boston Post Road East and arrested Sowa, the district attorney’s office said.

The gun was later found to be plastic, Ryan’s office said.

Sowa was arraigned in Marlborough Hospital on Friday. He is charged with masked armed robbery, and bail was set at $50,000, according to Ryan’s office.
