A tractor-trailer caught fire Wednesday morning on the Massachusetts Turnpike in Grafton, creating a five-mile backup, State Police said.
The fire broke out at 9:34 a.m. on the eastbound side of the road. No injuries were reported. Two lanes remained closed early Wednesday afternoon while cleanup continued, State Police said.
The Grafton Fire Department responded to the scene.
Firefighters said the entire unit was destroyed and the flames started a brush fire.
State Police tweeted that over 7,000 gallons of water were used to extinguish the flames. State Police are investigating.
