Worcester woman dies in school bus crash

A Worcester woman died after her minivan crashed into a school bus on Wednesday evening, police said.

Worcester and Shrewsbury police responded to Route 20 at 6:08 at the Worcester-Shrewsbury line, where a 2000 Honda Odyssey had collided with a school bus, Worcester police said in a statement.

The Honda was extensively damaged in the crash and a woman was stuck inside.

The woman, 58, was removed by the Shrewsbury Fire Department and brought to a hospital, police said. She underwent emergency surgery but died of her injuries at the hospital that evening, police said.

The names of the victim and the bus driver were not released on Thursday.

The school bus driver was not injured in the accident, according to police. There were no other passengers in either vehicle.

The preliminary investigation said the 2015 Thomas Built school bus, owned by AA Transportation, was traveling east when the Honda crossed the center line and collided with the bus head-on, police said.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene and will be inspected by accident reconstruction specialists.
