Boston police officers will wear black mourning bands while on duty to honor the death of a New York City police officer, Police Commissioner William B. Evans announced Monday.

Boston officers will wear the bands during the time of NYPD Officer Brian Moore’s funeral, which is being planned for Friday, “as a show of solidarity,” Evans said in a statement. All flags at Boston police facilities will be lowered to half-staff during that time.

The NYPD announced Monday that Moore died after being shot in Queens on Saturday.

“Our thoughts, prayers, and deepest condolences continue to be with Officer Moore’s family, friends, and fellow NYPD officers,” Evans said.
