Cars catch fire in radio station parking lot in Boston

A car fire in a radio station parking lot in Boston sent a plume of smoke into the air this morning, but the fire department said no one was injured.

The fire was reported at 8:33 a.m. at the 83 Leo Birmingham Parkway, home of several radio stations.

A 2005 Ford Explorer caught fire, and the fire extended to two other vehicles, one on each side, said Boston Fire Department spokesman Steve McDonald. He said the fire was quickly extinguished.

The Explorer was a total loss. The fire is under investigation, but in most cases, the cause of a car fire is mechanical, MacDonald said.
