Northeastern University has appointed James C. Bean as its new provost and senior vice president for academic affairs. During his five years at the University of Oregon, Bean “managed all aspects of the academic enterprise,” including provost and dean of the business school, Northeastern president Joseph E. Aoun wrote Monday in a message to faculty and staff. “He is extremely adept at designing and managing complex systems, a necessity for a successful provost,” Aoun wrote. “Jim also believes firmly in new ideas emerging from innovative faculty collaborations, and will work to empower these discussions.”
