Haverhill Fire Chief Richard Borden died Sunday night of natural causes, officials said. Mayor James Fiorentini ordered all flags at City Hall and fire stations be lowered to half-staff to honor Borden. “It was a terrible tragedy for our community,” he said. “He was a very dedicated public servant who loved the city and the Fire Department. Our thoughts tonight are with his family and his department. He will be sorely missed by the citizens of this city.” The Associated Press reported that Borden was 56.
