A developer of software and hardware for drones is the first company in Vermont to be granted a permit from the federal government to use the unmanned vehicles for commercial purposes. Vermont Public Radio reported that AirShark, a start-up company, received a Federal Aviation Administration exemption from regulations that prohibit the commercial use of unmanned aerial vehicles. AirShark’s Jon Budreski said the company focuses primarily on commercial and industrial uses for the devices. He said drones can be used to monitor solar energy systems that are hard to access and projects that need regular documentation, such as large commercial construction. He said the company has a licensed pilot on staff and a registered drone that can only be operated within the pilot’s line of sight.
