Man rescued from burning boat in Harwich

A man was injured in Harwich Sunday morning after his boat became fully engulfed in flames, officials said.

Authorities took the man, whose name was not released, to Cape Cod Hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening after pulling him off the burning boat, Captain Donald Parker of the Harwich Fire Department said Sunday.

The fire began shortly before 8 a.m. a quarter mile off Saquatucket Harbor and may have stemmed from problems in the boat’s engine room, Parker said.

The 24-foot fiberglass Albemarle sank in six feet of water after the fire was extinguished, and officials are looking into ways to salvage the vessel, said Petty Officer Myeonghi Clegg, a spokeswoman for the Coast Guard.
