Mayor Walsh ‘rickrolls’ resident during Twitter chat

Walsh took to Twitter Wednesday.City of Boston

During his Twitter chat with residents Wednesday, Mayor Marty Walsh danced around some questions about Boston’s bid to host the 2024 Olympics, but he managed to get a few laughs from followers when he took part in a musical Internet fad. Walsh, who regularly hops on the social-media site to talk with constituents, “Rickrolled” one person who was curious about what keeps the elected official going. The practice of Rickrolling involves tricking a user into clicking a video link to the popular song “Never Gonna Give You Up” by Rick Astley.

In addition to claiming — in jest, we’re sure — that Astley is his main motivator as a city leader, Walsh told his followers Wednesday that he’s considering running for a second term, that he’ll look into putting Ping-Pong tables in city parks to deter crime — as they do in Seattle — and promised, again, that he won’t use public money to fund venues for the Olympics.
