One dead, three injured in East Brookfield head-on crash

A head-on crash in East Brookfield left four people trapped in their vehicles, killing one person and sending three others to the hospital with serious injuries Tuesday afternoon, officials said.

A Toyota Sequoia traveling southbound on Route 49 collided with a Jeep Wrangler heading north at about 3:15 p.m. near Flagg Road , after which the two people in each vehicle were trapped inside and forcing rescue workers to extricate them, according to State Police.

An adult male passenger of the Toyota, whom State Police did not identify pending family notification, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The vehicle's driver, a 44-year-old woman from Barre, was taken to the University of Massachusetts Memorial Medical Center in Worcester with serious injuries, State Police said.


State Police said the driver of the Jeep was a 21-year-old woman from Worcester. The woman and her passenger, whose age State Police could not confirm, were brought to UMass Memorial for treatment of serious injuries, State Police said.

No further information was available Tuesday night.
