Former governor Dukakis still battling litter

He’s still at it. Michael Dukakis, the 1988 Democratic presidential nominee and former three-term governor of Massachusetts, is famous for picking up litter on his morning walks, particularly around the Emerald Necklace.

He was sighted again Wednesday morning, bending over to pick up trash on Park Drive near the Fenway, a plastic bag in one hand.

“It’s enough to drive you out of your mind,” he told the Globe in a 2003 story about litter. “You see it all over the place and you have to ask: Why isn’t anyone dealing with this?”
