Wilmington man allegedly crashes into police cruiser

Suspect charged with driving while drunk and without a license

A Wilmington man pleaded not guilty in South Boston District Court on Friday to charges that he sideswiped a parked police cruiser while driving drunk and without a license, officials said.

MBTA Transit police arrested George Mann, 55, on Thursday night after he hit the cruiser outside of South Boston’s Broadway station while driving a Ford pickup truck around 7:15 p.m., police said in a statement.

The transit officer in the cruiser chased Mann and pulled him over at the corner of A Street and West Broadway.

Mann is charged with operating under the influence of liquor, leaving the scene, and operating without a license.

He will return to court on Aug. 21, said Renee Algarin, a spokeswoman for Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel Conley.
