Apartment building partially collapses in Eastie

A partial building collapse in East Boston Saturday afternoon displaced 20 residents , officials said. At around 3 p.m., the Fire Department received a call that the rear wall of 175 Maverick St. was giving out, according to spokesman Steve MacDonald. Construction workers and others in the four-story apartment were evacuated immediately. There were no reported injuries, but all occupants of the building and 177 Maverick St. are not being allowed back into their homes overnight as a precaution, MacDonald said. The cause of the partial collapse is under investigation, and the Red Cross has been notified to help residents.
