Another truck hits Westwood’s infamous overpass

It’s happened again. Yet another truck has been destroyed by a low bridge in Westwood that has become an infamous source of spectacular, videotaped crashes.

On Thursday afternoon, a box truck used by a food distribution company drove into the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority overpass on East Street, which has a clearance of 10 feet 6 inches.

The impact destroyed the vehicle’s cargo area, and sent insulation flying through the air as other vehicles slammed on their brakes. Nobody was injured.

Police in Westwood say there have been at least 52 such crashes over the years. Since 2013, they’ve been using a camera set up near the bridge to record the impacts, and share the most dramatic ones online.
